Our Story

Who’s Steering The Ship exists to make real designs for real people.

It began with a love of drawing, shaped by life at sea, Navy service, tattoos, travel, music, and time spent with close friends. Over time, that passion grew into a small, independent design studio supported by a tight-knit community.

The name Who’s Steering The Ship is a simple question.

The ship is a metaphor for the individual. Steering it means taking responsibility for your direction, your decisions, and the way you move through life. When you are in control of your course, you can weather difficult conditions. When you are not, it is easy to drift off course.

That idea carries through the WSTS logo. The anchor represents staying grounded and knowing who you are, even when things get rough. The tentacles reach outward, adapting, exploring, and navigating whatever comes next. Together, they reflect the balance between holding steady at your core and embracing the unpredictable path around you.

At WSTS, we believe in resisting the ordinary and embracing the random. Not as a slogan, but as a way of approaching work and life. We value intent over trends, originality over convenience, and making things properly rather than quickly.

Every WSTS design is hand-drawn from scratch and created with purpose. The work reflects lived experience, humour, hardship, and the lessons learned along the way.

That’s the WSTS difference.

Meet The Artist

@B_sea_R

Brendan Sear

I am a self-taught artist and active Navy veteran with a strong appreciation for traditional drawing methods. After transitioning into digital illustration, my creative focus expanded while maintaining a hands-on, drawn-from-scratch approach.

My work is influenced by tattoo culture, music, band tour posters, travel, and the many hours spent at sea. Each piece reflects the experiences and environments that have shaped my perspective and creative process.

WSTS is an extension of that work. A place to create designs with intent and meaning, rather than chasing trends or shortcuts.

If my work resonates with you, you are welcome to follow along and see what’s next.
